Rick Rubin to Produce Next Metallica Album!

Fellow Metal Pundits, the Bob Rock era Metallica is officially done! According to a story on Blabbermouth, Metallica have announced that their next album will be produced by the legendary producer who is known for his work with Slayer, Slipknot, and System of a Down. I'm actually excited about this! No more trash can snares, no more lack of solos, and hopefully no more crappy songs! I have high hopes for this next album. I sure hope they don't let us down again! The ideal would be to have Rubin influence them to play thrash. This is all wishful thinking, but I really wish that their next album will rival recent masterpieces by Exodus and Nevermore!

I seriously doubt that this will be worth the wait. I've gotten my hopes up before the Black album, Load and St. Anger. I'm pretty much done with them.

I'll give mad props to Trujillo all day long, I think he's definately worthy of the Metallica payday, but I doubt that having a class act for bassist and a great producer is enough to rescue the remains of Metallica.

This is very good news. Metallica has been the greatest band in the world, let's hope they can get back on that horse.

I agree Os. I bought the Black album the day it came out, and haven't bought a Metallica album since. I hope Rubin can bring Metallica back to glory, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I don't think that even the great Rick Rubin can control their over-bloated egos.

They could get rid of Lars, James, and Kirk.

That would help more than anything else.

Optimism, my friends, is the key to Metallica's renaissance. While the probability of their next album being good is marginal, it doesn't hurt to do some wishful thinking. We'll have to wait and see what it sounds like when it comes out.

This next album would be the decisive point to me. Although I gotta say, picking Rick Rubin over Bob Rock should definitely stir the pot.

How many thought that this rumor would come true? I think this decision pretty much say that they still have the spontaneity in them. They were very edgy the past few years. Just not in a good way.

I'm not keeping my hopes up since there's so much good music out there much worth waiting for. But it would be nice if they come out with a big one!

Dude, it's gonna suck!

Metallica has turned out nothing but absolute garbage since the black album. The best producer in the world can't make these bozos gain talent.

I am in pure bliss . Some of my favorite albums have been produced by the mighty one. Among those are Slayer's South of Heaven and Chili Pepper's Blood Sugar Sex Magic. Bob Rock needed to be axed 10 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I love the Black Album , and Load's Bleeding of Me is one of Metallica's greatest songs. Lets face it St.Anger was a failed bit due to the PRODUCER! If you throw away the cd, and just watch the DVD, man I tell you It kicks your @ss!

Here is a toast, a toast to all the Metallica fans, May they restore our faith in them, May Rob Trujillo's input and style contribute to the album,May Kirk Hammett solo as much as he wants, and most of all, May Rick Rubin bring Metallica back to the promised land.

While it will be interesting to see how it turns out, I don't think it will save them. Check out the thread I posted on metalreview about this:
