The vote went straight down party lines 24-13. The Democrats reasons for the bill were largely based on emotion (as normal) and largely had nothing to do with reason
During the debate the following arguments/stories were relayed
Sen. Nell Soto, D-Pomona, recalled watching as a child as immigration police swept up brown-skinned farmworkers, "not even asking if they were illegal or illegal."
Sen. Martha Escutia, D-Norwalk, described how her grandfather remained in the country illegally after overstaying a work permit during the 1940s, when he picked fruits and vegetables while American men were fighting World War II.
I have several problems with this bill.
1) Any public official that actively encourage children to skip school needs to be removed from office
2) Why is any body of government endorsing illegal immigration? Last time I checked, crossing the border illegally was a felony, has that changed?
